They're saved on your own device, in your browser, rather than on our servers.

That covers everything: your scenes, characters, locations, styles, images and voice clips. We don't keep a copy, so nobody here can read your stories.

Note: because of this, a story lives in the browser you made it in.

Export any story you'd like to hang onto. Export saves a .drsf file that you can import again whenever you want, on this device or another one.

It's worth doing before you clear your browser data or move to a new phone, since clearing site data for app.dreamrunner.ai takes your stories with it.

Note: if you tap a link to DreamRunner from inside Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, it opens in that app's own built-in browser, and those store things separately. A story you start in one of those won't be there when you open DreamRunner normally later. Opening app.dreamrunner.ai in your usual browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox — avoids it.

You can — export it from the first device and import it on the second, and the whole thing comes across.

Note: publishing to the community won't do the job here. A community upload only includes the first scene, so other players start fresh from your setup rather than reading your playthrough.

Nope, that's handled for you. Your progress saves as you go.

You get 50 images and 100 story generations, and it's free forever. The free tier runs on a simpler AI model, and it isn't a trial that expires.

Once you've used an allowance up, it comes back 16 hours after you ran out.

Note: we know a rolling 16-hour timer is awkward to keep track of, so we're planning to move it to a set time each day instead.

This one comes up a lot, and it's a fair question.

Credits pay for the better AI models. Those write with more detail and handle dialogue and your characters more convincingly, and every reply they write costs us money, just like every image does.

The free model stays free, so credits are about upgrading the writing rather than paying for permission to play.

Three things help, roughly in order of how much they save:

1. Pick a cheaper AI model. The model browser shows what each one costs, and the cheaper options are still good.
2. Pick a cheaper image model, on the same principle.
3. Turn down the Memory Length slider. Every scene held in memory gets sent to the AI again on every turn, so it's one of your biggest ongoing costs.

Note: turning memory down costs you a little detail from recent scenes, but the summaries still carry the important events and your main characters.

It varies quite a bit, so there's no single number we can give you.

What you spend on a scene depends on the AI model writing it, the image model drawing it, the voice model reading it, and how much context and memory you've configured. A short scene on a cheap model with memory turned down costs a fraction of a long one on a premium model with memory at maximum.

The model browser shows the cost of each option, which is the quickest way to see what you're choosing between.

Not at the moment — credits are the only option today. We don't have immediate plans for subscriptions, though it's not ruled out either.

Honestly, try a few. They each write a bit differently, and which one suits your story comes down to taste as much as anything. The model browser lists cost and context size so you can compare.

Note: we add new models fairly often, so it's worth looking again now and then. If you find a favourite, the Discord is a good place to share it — model recommendations are some of the most useful things players pass around.

The AI can only hold so much of your story in mind at once. Recent scenes are kept in full, and older ones get turned into short summaries. So the small details from early on fade over time, while the bigger events stick around.

You're in control of the balance. The Memory Length slider lives in Settings → Story, and it runs from 15 to 150 scenes, starting at 35.

Note: turning it up keeps more recent scenes in full detail, but every one of those gets sent again on every turn, so a higher setting costs more credits each time you generate. Summaries are the cheap way to reach much further back.

You can edit its memory yourself, which is easily the most useful trick in the app. DreamRunner writes summaries as your story grows, and none of them are locked:

• Story summaries live in Settings → Story. Each one has an edit button — open it, change the text, save. If a summary missed something that mattered, add it. If it got something wrong, correct it. Whatever's written there is what the AI carries forward.
• Character memories are on each character in the character list. There's a memory box you can edit directly: what they know, what they've been through, how they feel about you.

Note: so if the AI keeps forgetting that someone betrayed you back in scene 12, write it into the summary and it'll stop.

At the moment, the most reliable spot for standing instructions is your story prompt. Anything typed into the story input tends to get treated as part of the story, brackets and all, since that's what that box is for.

Note: this changes in the next update — you'll be able to see and edit DreamRunner's own system prompts for each story, so you can steer things directly.

It's capped at 5,000 characters at the moment.

The character slideover holds the written descriptions your images are generated from — one for physical appearance and one for outfit. These drive every picture of that character, so if depictions keep coming out wrong, that's the first place to look.

The appearance editor adjusts a single image using the image-editing model, which is handy for changes that are easier to point at than to describe.

Note: it helps to be specific in those descriptions — hair, build, age, colours, materials. Vague descriptions tend to give vague results.

Styles set the overall look of your story. Open Menu → Styles and you'll find your story's character style and location style.

From there you can:

• Set the default look for characters and locations
• Give a particular character or location its own style
• Edit an existing style to tweak it
• Build a new style from scratch

You can — every character can have their own voice. You can design one from a description, or clone one from a clip you upload.

There are two ways to get there:

• Menu → Voice, then choose the character.
• Or tap the edit button on the action bar, then the microphone icon in the quick actions above your characters.

Note: narration has its own voice too, separate from the characters.

It depends which part of DreamRunner you're using.

Story text is down to the AI model you've chosen — we don't add a filter on top of it. Models vary quite a bit in what they'll write, so if you're running into refusals you didn't expect, it's worth trying a different one.

Images are filtered. Explicit sexual terms are removed from the description before it reaches the image generator, and a safe-for-work steer is added, so generated pictures stay non-explicit. This happens whether the wording came from you or from the AI's own description of a character.

Note: sexualized content involving minors will always be blocked.

Community uploads are held to a stricter standard, since anything you publish there is public and visible to everyone.

Note: underneath all of it, DreamRunner is built to be private. Your stories and images stay in your browser, and we don't store your text or image data on any server.

It's something we're actively looking into. The hold-up is payment processors rather than a lack of interest on our end — the companies that handle card payments put limits on what can be sold alongside adult content.

Note: we'd like to offer a less restricted version of the site. It's a real piece of work rather than a switch we can flip, but we expect to have an update within the next six months or so.

We limit sign-ups to certain email providers and cap how quickly new accounts can be created, because we had a real problem with spam accounts. A mainstream provider should go through fine.

Note: we know that's more hassle than it should be, and a delete button you can use yourself is on the way.

You can ask for one in your story prompt — tell the AI which language to write in and it'll usually follow.

Note: proper support is on the way, with a language selector that changes the interface as well as the writing.

The site works well in a desktop browser.

Note: there's no offline version planned. DreamRunner leans on remote AI processing for both the writing and the images, and that's not something a typical home machine can run.
