Creating Custom Styles

Step-by-step guide to creating your own custom art styles

Custom styles allow you to define exactly how characters and locations should appear in your visual novel. This guide walks you through the process of building a custom style from scratch.

Opening the Style Editor

From the Styles modal, you can:

  • Click "Edit" on an existing style to modify it
  • Click "Search" to browse and select from available models
  • Create a new style from scratch

Step-by-Step Creation Process

Step 1: Name Your Style

  • Enter a descriptive name (up to 50 characters)
  • Leave blank for auto-naming based on the models you select
  • Choose names that help you remember the style's purpose

Good naming examples:

  • "Anime Character Default"
  • "Dark Fantasy Locations"
  • "Watercolor Portraits"
  • "Cyberpunk City Scenes"
  • "Realistic Character Art"

Step 2: Select a Checkpoint (Required)

The checkpoint is the foundation of your style - you cannot save without one.

  1. Click the search/add button in the Checkpoint section
  2. Browse available checkpoints by architecture
  3. Filter by checkpoint architecture if needed
  4. Select your base model

Important: You cannot save a style without selecting a checkpoint. If you try to save without one, you'll see an error message.

Step 3: Add LoRAs (Optional)

LoRAs add specific features and enhancements to your base checkpoint.

  1. Click the search/add button in the LoRA section
  2. Browse compatible LoRAs (automatically filtered by checkpoint architecture)
  3. Add up to several LoRAs per style
  4. Adjust weights if needed
  5. Remove LoRAs that don't work well together

Tips for LoRAs:

  • Start with 0-2 LoRAs for clean results
  • Test each LoRA individually before combining
  • Adjust LoRA weights to balance their effects
  • Too many LoRAs may cause conflicts

Step 4: Add Embeddings (Optional)

Embeddings enhance the AI's understanding of specific concepts.

  1. Click the search/add button in the Embedding section
  2. Browse compatible embeddings
  3. Select embeddings relevant to your story's theme
  4. Add multiple embeddings for comprehensive coverage

Good uses for embeddings:

  • Specific art styles or techniques
  • Character archetypes or features
  • Atmospheric concepts
  • Thematic elements of your story

Step 5: Review Generation Cost

Before saving, check the credits per generation displayed at the top of the editor. This shows how many credits each image will cost using this style.

Cost considerations:

  • Higher quality checkpoints cost more credits
  • LoRAs and embeddings may affect cost
  • Balance quality needs with your credit budget

Step 6: Save Your Style

For new styles:

  • Click "Save Style" to create the style
  • The style will be available for use immediately

For existing styles:

  • Click "Save Changes" to update the style
  • Click "Revert Changes" to undo modifications
  • Click "Delete" to remove the style permanently

Validation

The system validates your style before saving:

  • Checkpoint Required: An error appears if no checkpoint is selected
  • Architecture Compatibility: LoRAs and embeddings must match the checkpoint
  • Name Length: Style names cannot exceed 50 characters

If validation fails, you'll see a clear error message explaining what needs to be fixed.

What Happens After Saving

Once you save a custom style:

  1. The style becomes available in your style library
  2. You can apply it to characters or locations
  3. You can edit or delete it at any time
  4. You can reuse it across multiple stories

Quick Start Workflow

For beginners:

  1. Start with just a checkpoint
  2. Test it by applying to a character or location
  3. If satisfied, save and use
  4. If not, add 1-2 LoRAs to refine
  5. Test again and adjust

For advanced users:

  1. Select a high-quality checkpoint
  2. Add complementary LoRAs for specific effects
  3. Include relevant embeddings for your theme
  4. Fine-tune weights for optimal results
  5. Save and apply

Managing Your Styles
